Rovio’s phone game Angry Birds unleashed a tornado of Angry Birds-related junk just a few short years ago, and the zealous quest for quick cash may have oversaturated the property into oblivion. It takes time to make an animated movie, though, typically about four years. Thus, four years after Angry Birds hit its peak, we’ll get this Angry Birds movie.
Red the Bird (voiced by Jason Sudeikis) has this…anger problem. And when Bill Hader shows up as a conquering green pig, his temper goes up to 11. Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph and Peter Dinklage voice supporting roles. There’s also Josh Gad as Chuck, a character who talks exceedingly fast and has the potential to drag down the entire picture alone.
There’s nothing in this trailer that doesn’t look typical of a C-list CGI movie riding far behind the coattails of Disney or DreamWorks (slapstick dominates the jokes in these clips). BUT the writer is Jon Vitti, who among other things wrote the famous Mr. Plow episode of The Simpsons. It’s possible this movie is much funnier than what we’re actually seeing. Who knows. Let’s be hopeful, right?
The Angry Birds movie won’t be out for a year — this is a very early trailer (but from the looks of things much of the movie appears to be done). Look for The Angry Birds Movie in the summer of 2016. Also, look for a CGI movie centered around Emojis in 2019. (Not kidding.)
